Are Shopify Themes Refundable?

No, Shopify themes are not refundable. Whilst traditionally themes are not refundable, you can still ask the question.

Depending on where you’ve purchased the theme, and the reasoning for the refund request, you may be able to claw some cost back. However, the process in which to do so can be quite challenging. You’ll need to meet the criteria of third-party refund policies.

Below are snippets from the most popular Shopify theme suppliers:

ThemeForest: “If you have not downloaded a purchased item within 3 months from the date of purchase, you may be eligible for a refund.” - source: ThemeForest refund policy

Envato: “We do not generally offer a refund or credit if you decide to cancel your subscription unless required by applicable laws or as otherwise described in our Elements User Terms.” - source: Envato refund policy

It’s important to note when purchasing a Shopify theme, you are purchasing a digital asset that can be modified, thus this to some degree is a loose contract. If an asset can be modified or installed from its original state, then a refund is not possible.

The Takeaway

It’s always wise to ensure before you commit to any purchase online, that you're fully aware of the refund policy.

As we’ve stated many times before, start small, and get familiar with the theme process - meaning the installation, customization, adding products, and anything else besides.

Once you’re comfortable, you can then opt to purchase a theme knowing that you’ll need to request a theme refund.
